Who Are We?

Who are We?

The Lake Chelan Arts Council was founded in 1985 as a non-profit organization, to unite local Chelan Valley Artists. As a result of the Chelan Vision workshop in 2007, it was determined that there was a renewed interest in the various forms of arts, and most importantly, making the arts available to the citizens of the Lake Chelan Valley. It is through this renewed energy that the Lake Chelan Arts Council has been put into motion once again, acting as the umbrella of support for all forms of art and culture in the valley.

Projects: Current and Future

To date, the organization has been a vehicle for many performing arts groups in the area, such as the Chelan Valley Players, Lake Chelan Bach Fest as well as orchestrating the placement of the Bear, created by Richard Beyer, a renowned local artist from Pateros. Our current plans include an Outdoor Gallery, an arts on loan program with the hope of a permanent collection in the Chelan Valley. Our most recent addition to the Outdoor Gallery is on loan to us from Jerry McKellar, a Chelan native and well known artist and sculptor. Jerry’s bronze life-size sculpture, "Flower Dancing in the Wind", is currently located in the courtyard of St Pauls Episcopal Church. Future visions for the Lake Chelan Arts Council include educational programs, scholarships, and an artist's co-op where local artists connect, work together and sponsor workshops, as well as helping Chelan’s performing art groups develop a performing art “series” of entertainment.

Why are We on a Fund Raising Campaign?

The “supporting membership” model is one that has worked well in other art forward thinking communities. The board recognized early that in order to have a diverse and thriving arts program, it would take the support of the community. The Cornerstone Membership drive will provide the initial financial base for all forth coming programs.

Why Become a Cornerstone Member?

We are looking for fifty forward thinking members of the community who feel art is important to the enrichment of our lives, our young people’s future and of the community. Fifty individuals who feel the richness of artistic expression in its many forms is something to be valued and would like to become Cornerstone Members of the Lake Chelan Arts Council. All Cornerstone Members will be recognized in printed programs, and will receive other VIP benefits as the membership program is developed. This is an opportunity for fifty community members to be a part of creating new possibilities for culture and to enjoy those new possibilities in the Lake Chelan Valley that would not be available otherwise.
